In a sense you are constantly dying.

Your most fundamental essence is your consciousness, and that is continually moving on. When you were a fetus a primitive awareness emerged, replaced by increasingly complex consciousnesses as you developed. Every child you once were is essentially dead. Those consciousnesses no longer exists, superseded by the next and so on.

Death will just be the termination of our flow of consciousness. Our last thought will simply no longer be followed by another.

At night I wake up with the sheets soaking wet
and a freight train running through the middle of my head.
Only you can cool my desire
